She was formed about 4.54 billion years ago, and today is her day. Happy Earth Day to our beautiful Pachamama! On this occasion, we honor her and give thanks to her beauty and her uncompromising resilience; to her unconditional giving and resourcefulness; to her relentless nurturing with water, earth, sun & moon. We are eternally grateful.

Since its inception in 1970, Earth Day has continued to grow as a worldwide phenomenon. It is celebrated in over 193 countries, promoting clean living and a healthy, sustainable habitat for people and wildlife. Celebrating Earth Day serves as a conscious reminder of how fragile our planet is and how important it is to protect it. May this day not only be a moment for reflection but use it to rise up and commit to taking action.

We can begin with making minor changes in our daily lives. You can start with little things, such as using refillable water bottles, limiting meat consumption, choosing sunscreens that won’t damage our fragile corals, limiting AC usage to save energy, saying no to the plastic straw… There are so many possibilities! If we all take these micro initiatives, we can make an enormous collective difference.

With this in mind and to celebrate Earth Month, Maya Luxe is proudly joining forces with The Ocean Foundation and their SeaGrass Grow project. SeaGrass Grow is the first and only blue carbon calculator for planting and protecting coastal wetlands to fight climate change. Through this innovative program, Maya Luxe has estimated the carbon footprint for all our guests during the month of April. We will help offset this footprint by donating to help restore and protect seagrass.

But why seagrass? Firstly, it can sequester staggering amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere, 35x more than the Amazonian rainforest, to be precise. It is also vital for both people and wildlife. A single hectare of seagrass can support up to 40,000 fish, which in turn can be crucial for people whose livelihoods are linked to marine ecosystems. It is estimated that 3 billion people worldwide depend on food from the ocean, making it a global priority for conservation. In short, seagrass is amazing. You can learn more about the benefits of planting seagrass here.

This is just the start. We want to encourage all our guests to consider offsetting their footprints and help us protect the planet. If you wish to join this effort and learn how to offset your travel carbon footprint, please reach out to us at rise@mayaluxe.com. Nature and us will take all the support we can get.

We have one Earth. We have one planet. It’s down to us as a global community to honor this vibrant world we all call home and help it thrive. Let’s rise up together. #risewithML
